Highlights from Jason Castro's #AskJason Twitter Introduction

The Minnesota Twins announced on Wednesday morning that they’d agreed to terms with catcher Jason Castro on a three-year deal worth $24.5 million. The deal had been in the works for just over a week, with the contract becoming a formality as Castro passed a physical and put the pen to paper to join the team officially.

No corresponding roster move was announced, so for the time being, the Twins are at a full 40-man roster. That’s not unusual for any time of year, but if the Twins want to use their No. 1 slot in the upcoming Rule 5 draft — this seems rather likely — the team will have to make a move in advance of the draft.

Castro will speak with the media via conference call on Wednesday afternoon, but he took the time to don his new duds and conduct a Twitter Q&A with the Twins faithful late Wednesday morning.

Here are some of the highlights:

This question tends to be a popular one when a player completely unfamiliar to the Twin Cities signs with the team. And while the team wasn’t particularly good in 2016, this could be hinting at the Twins brass sharing their vision with Castro moving forward. That it convinced Castro to sign is encouraging not only for him, but for fans as well.

Weather also frequently comes up, despite the fact that for much of the baseball season, Minnesota is temperate to downright balmy. But it’s a fair question to ask a guy who has spent his entire MLB career playing in Houston and who went to college in California (Stanford).

This is one of the more asinine debates on Twitter — and that’s saying something — but at least Twins fans can rest assured that their catcher will fall on the right side of history.

This was one of the more heady questions asked of Castro in his brief chat, and it’s not a surprise that the Stanford man — congrats to Twins Radio Network jack-of-all-trades Kris Atteberry for someone he can talk Cardinal athletics with — comes across sounding very intelligent in his response. Catchers by nature have to have superior intellect on the field, and Castro passes the eye test here.

If you’re a member of Twins Territory, help the man out! He said he likes Mexican food best. Us? We at Cold Omaha really like the Blue Door, personally.

This is a good bit of levity, as Herman is the team’s director of team travel.

Here’s another way Twins fans can get involved. Personally: might we suggest “Bulls on Parade” by Rage Against the Machine?

One of his favorite stadiums to play in is Fenway. Classic. Point, Castro.

Yours truly only plays sports games, but surveying the general video game scene would suggest this is a positive.

Dude.

Might have to investigate this. Wonder if he’s going to use an #AxeBat?

….and he rallies for a strong finish. These chats with players are pretty cool, and it looked like there were minimal truly mean tweets. Good job all around, folks.
