Minnesota United returned to the practice field Tuesday after a weekend that saw arguably the club’s biggest win in franchise history.
Apart from the obvious, Loon’s head coach Adrian Heath said Abu Danladi and Christian Ramirez defensive work rate really stood out to him as a key differentiator in the game as they broke the rhythm of the Sporting Kansas City’s holding midfielder Ilie Sanchez.
“It was magnificent, their work rate,” Heath said. “I know it sounds a bit technical, but it was very important for us to stop Ilie dictating the pace of the game.”
Heath said despite No. 1 goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth’s gruesome nose injury on Sunday that he’s been fitted for a protective mask and the team fully expects him to play versus Toronto this Saturday.
Against Sporting, United conceded 66 percent of possession, allowed 17 total shots and 10 corner kicks, but Heath disagreed his team allowed them numerous chances. The game also saw Shuttleworth set the franchise record for saves in a game with 7.
