To bolster their point guard depth, the Minnesota Timberwolves signed Aaron Brooks to a one-year deal right before heading out to training camp in San Diego, Calif. With Brooks on the roster, 17 players head into camp for the Timberwolves.
The 32-year-old Brooks played in 65 games last season with the Indiana Pacers and averaged 5.0 points and 13.8 minutes per game. The veteran is entering his 10th NBA season, fresh off a year he shot 37.5 percent from beyond the arc, giving the Timberwolves some more deep shooting off the bench to go along with Jamal Crawford. This also adds some healthy competition for the other point guard on the bench, third-year man Tyus Jones.
As for the fit, Brooks should slide right into the organization after playing 82 games under Tom Thibodeau in the 2014-15 season. He averaged 11.6 points per game under Thibodeau, the third-highest season average of his career, and played alongside another current Timberwolves member: Taj Gibson.
“I’ve had two bad years. To have this opportunity is a blessing. I’m happy to be on a good team, a good organization,” said Brooks at the Timberwolves media day to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
