MOLESKY: Taking a Peek at the New Timberwolves Jersey Leak

NBA2K18 is coming soon, and so are the new Minnesota Timberwolves jerseys, which were leaked in a screengrab of the preview to the upcoming game. The picture flying around the internet is of Karl-Anthony Towns, donning the new look while backing down Boston Celtic center Al Horford.

The move behind the Wolves’ push for new jerseys is to establish the new face and identity of the team. Young players, new coach, remodeled building, fresh look, and so on. While hopefully this is not a look the team is married to, their jersey game needs work, and it is good to see this team fully commit to a new rebrand.

Here is a pic of Andrew Wiggins rocking the new shorts for the team.

Along with a new jersey, the Wolves will be getting new revenue for it, signing a deal with Fitbit to place a small patch on the top right corner of the jersey. While the collaboration extends to players and personnel using the brand to help in fitness technique, the patch will be on the jerseys that everyone sees and wears.

It is a good way to create more of a revenue stream, but makes the jersey look less than good. Much like soccer jerseys, it looks cluttered and less professional. NBA, MLB, NHL and NFL uniforms are defined by how clean and crisp they are in their appearance. Throwing advertisements on them looks childish — something reserved for colleges. The teams feeling the need to add revenue streams when making billions off television deals before they ever sell a ticket or piece of merchandise seems like a ludicrous excuse. This is a sad move for fans of good-looking NBA jerseys, and a nasty look for the NBA jersey.
