REPORT: Paul Millsap in Meetings With Timberwolves

According to Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders, free-agent big man Paul Millsap is slated to meet with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday. If Minnesota could get Millsap to come North, the team could have a powerhouse roster capable of making some real playoff noise.

Here is what he brings to the table:

The team would be upgrading from Gorgui Dieng to Millsap at power forward. That is a bump from 10 points per game to 18, along with setting him up alongside his old point guard. But the best part about bringing Millsap into the fold would be that he is used to playing with other talents who take up shots, as some of his best years with the Atlanta Hawks were spent alongside Kyle Korver and Al Horford. He is valuable because of his scoring paired with what he does away from the ball.

Last season he averaged 7.8 rebounds per game with 1.3 steals. He can get to the glass and grab boards or play outside and use his length to create turnovers. His ability to play versatile also means that the Wolves can flex into a few different lineups with him on the roster.

The Wolves could play it big and throw out a front court of Millsap, Karl-Anthony Towns and rookie Justin Patton or play small ball, with Millsap at the center spot and keep the floor spread out with four guards. As most of you have heard hammered home time and again on TNT or ESPN, the best teams can adjust and match and outmaneuver the opponents via talent and strategy

The Wolves fans have watched over the past few season were dependent on Andrew Wiggins and Towns to be great and carry the roster. Now with the additions of Jeff Teague, Jimmy Butler and Millsap, the team’s playbook could really start to open up and give head coach Tom Thibodeau a lot of options.

Now it’s just a matter of getting a deal done.
