REPORTS: Shabazz Muhammad Returns To The Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves signed Shabazz Muhammad to the veteran’s minimum of $1.6 million after the guard had a quiet summer of testing free agency.

Last season, he averaged 9.9 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. This is another depth move for the Timberwolves and they are getting him on a great deal. The UCLA product averaged 19.4 minutes through the season. Despite the rough start scoring last season, he finished strong with averages of 11.6 points per game in January and February, 10.4 per game in March and 12.8 in April.

While the addition is not going to create waves, the second unit of Tyus Jones, Jamal Crawford, Muhammad and Taj Gibson is a solid bunch. The primary purpose of the bench is to build a squad that does not blow the starters lead, which this group is starting to look like and form into.

They also have versatility, as there are big players to throw in with starters if they want to go tough off the glass, or shooters and ball handlers if they want to play small ball. The bench is coming to gather in a great way behind the starting five and they are doing it affordably. They did not shell out tons of cash on Crawford or Gibson, while Jones is still on his rookie deal. The bench looks well-rounded, which is what a team that plans on winning needs to be successful.
