Die-hard Minnesota Timberwolves fans are itching for the team’s first playoff berth since 2004, and ESPN Insider Chad Ford confirms (Insider required) that the Wolves have a good future ahead of them.
“Fill out their squad with young players like Ricky Rubio, Zach LaVine, Shabazz Muhammad, Nemanja Bjelica and the No. 5 pick in this year’s draft (in addition to Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns) and the Wolves have, arguably, the best young roster in the NBA,” he writes.
“Now they also have a top-five coach in the league in Tom Thibodeau, and a GM, Scott Layden, who is much savvier than his tough stint with the Knicks would suggest.”
So no, the team won’t be winning an NBA championship next season. But there is reason to believe things will get better according to Ford.
“This looks like a potentially dangerous playoff team in 2017-18,” he adds, “and a potential title contender in 2018-19.”
