8/3: Twins Take Third from Indians with 13-5 Victory

Make it three in a row. The Minnesota Twins beat off the Cleveland Indians in spectacular fashion Wednesday night. Joe Mauer tripled and hit two doubles, finishing the night 4-for-5. Leadoff man Brian Dozier went 2-for-5 with a triple and a homer.

Max Kepler didn’t hit a home run, but finished the night 2-for-4.

“All right,” Mauer said when he was informed by the Pioneer Press that his fourth triple of the year tied him with Dozier and Byron Buxton for the team lead, “it’s on.”

In a season in which a lot has gone wrong for the Twins, 43-64 after this win, manager Paul Molitor told the Star Tribune that you have to savor series like this.

“You’ve got to enjoy these things when they come along, because we know it can be the converse,” Molitor said. “Guys are just going with the flow.”

Starter Tyler Duffey was looking to bounce back after two short starts, and did enough to stay in the rotation for the time being, giving up eight hits and five earned runs in 6.0 innings.

“Mauer and Kepler, I wouldn’t want to pitch to them right now,” Duffey told the Star Tribune.
