Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey stole the show in 2015 when he set a new NCAA record with 3,864 all-purpose yards. As a threat to take it the distance as a running back, wide receiver and special teamer, McCaffrey is the most versatile offensive skill player the 2017 NFL Draft has to offer.
Even with his outstanding elusiveness and mismatch potential out of the backfield, scouts and coaches must assess if the undersized role player McCaffrey is worth a top pick in the draft knowing full well he will never have the size or strength to take on 25 or more touches in a game.
In a Brian Westbrook- or Tiki Barber-type mold, McCaffrey needs to find a team that will utilize his unique skill set properly, making sure he touches the ball out in space 10 or more times per game, without being the focal point of the defense’s attention.
Knowing that, teams like the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans would be dream landing spots for McCaffrey, allowing him to work with a budding young quarterback that already posses a threat to defenses, and would allow McCaffrey to get the open space needed to maximize his talents.
