First-Round Mock Draft: Picks 21-32

Luke Inman and Kyle Posey have you covered with this first edition mock draft. Here’s Part 3…

PICK 21: Detroit Lions (Inman)
SELECTION: DE Taco Charlton, Michigan

He will walk onto the field with the NFL size and strength teams covet as a traditional base defensive end. Coaches will need to work on his technique and pass rushing sequence but all the tools are there to make a big impact with Ziggy Ansah commanding all the attention.

PICK 22: Miami Dolphins (Posey)
SELECTION: OLB Jarrad Davis, Florida

The Dolphins have struggled so much at the linebacker position this year. They need to upgrade desperately at both outside spots, and Davis is the athlete that can cover that Miami is looking for.

PICK 23: Oakland Raiders (Inman)
SELECTION: RB Christian McCaffery, Stanford

Personally, I’m in the “wait on RBs” boat. However, adding talented football players is the ultimate goal. Teaming up McCaffery with Carr and Cooper completes a triangle of playmakers that will give defenses nightmares for the next decade.

PICK 24: New York Giants (Posey)
SELECTION: OT Ryan Ramczyk, Wisconsin

Bobby Hart was fine this season but is upgradeable. The Giants should continue to stock talent, and Ramczyk is a mauling athlete that’ll only continue to get better with more reps. This selection should go a long ways in upgrading the run game.

PICK 25: Pittsburgh Steelers (Inman)
SELECTION: Edge-Rusher Takkarist McKinley, UCLA

The arrow is pointing up on this guy as McKinley exploded his senior year; an outstanding athlete that flies all over the field. Coach Mike Tomlin will fine tune his technique and build up his frame, turning him into another play-making linebacker.

PICK 26: Houston Texans (Posey)
SELECTION: CB Marcus Lattimore, Ohio State

Johnathan Joseph only has one more year on his deal and isn’t getting any younger. The Texans will also likely lose AJ Bouye in free agency, so corner will be a need for them even with Kevin Johnson getting healthy. Lattimore is a stud press man corner than could easily be one of the best players in this draft three years from now. He is physical and can recover as well as any corner in the draft.

PICK 27: Seattle Seahawks (Inman)
SELECTION: OT Dion Dawkins, Temple

Who? Nobody better than the Seahawks at reaching for need. Dawkins has a monster frame and good athleticism, giving him outstanding tools to work with while filling by far the team’s biggest need on the offensive line.

PICK 28: Kansas City Chiefs (Posey)
SELECTION: QB Deshaun Watson, Clemson

Chiefs get lucky here and get two years to develop Watson before letting Alex Smith walk. Watson is a perfect fit in Andy Reid’s offense, and though he does make mistakes underneath and his accuracy can be better over the middle, he has the traits you want in a quarterback.

PICK 29: Atlanta Falcons (Inman)
SELECTION: CB Teez Tabor, Florida

Another cornerback from Florida that will start right out the gates in the NFL. Tabor can play press and zone coverage equally well when he lets his quick feet and instincts take over. His combine speed will ultimately make or break his draft slot, but make no mistake, Tabor will be a solid player in the league.

PICK 30: Green Bay Packers (Posey)
SELECTION: Edge-Rusher Carl Lawson, Auburn

Nick Perry is probably going to get paid big time in free agency, and Julius Peppers’ contract is up as well, leaving a big hole on the edge for Green Bay. Luckily for them, they get an athletic pass rusher who is great with his hands and can get after the quarterback.

PICK 31: New England Patriots (Inman)
SELECTION: WR Jonn Ross, Washington

History says this team doesn’t know how to draft WRs (Malcolm Mitchell may be the exception). However, Ross is close to a can’t-miss prospect as an explosive slot receiver that happens to fit exactly what Brady and this offense loves to do in a pick-you-apart offense. Rookie of the Year? I’m only half joking…

PICK 32: Dallas Cowboys (Posey)
SELECTION: CB Quincy Wilson, Florida

Getting Dak Prescott another weapon or possibly upgrading the pass rush here is tempting, but Wilson is a top-tier CB that would step in right away and start over free agent to be Brandon Carr. Wilson has outstanding ball skills and is very good at staying in phase. This is a steal for Dallas.
