VIDEO: Ahmad Rashad's Hail Mary Catch to Clinch the Division

It was announced earlier Wednesday that Ahmad Rashad will be inducted into the Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor this season several weeks after fellow receiving legend Randy Moss.

This provides a great opportunity to relive one of the wildest finishes, not only in Vikings history, but in NFL history.

Go back to 1980. The 8-6 Vikings had a chance to win the NFC Central with a win over the Cleveland Browns in the second-to-last game of the season. Down 23-9 early in the fourth quarter, the Vikings eventually pulled within a point at 23-22 and got the ball back at their own 20-yard line with 14 seconds remaining.

Their first play was a remarkable hook-and-ladder to running back Ted Brown that went for 34 yards to the Cleveland 46-yard line. That left a short enough distance for Tommy Kramer to heave the ball toward the end zone on the game’s final play, and that’s where Rashad got involved.

The Vikings earned Bud Grant his 11th division title thank to the “Miracle at the Met,” and Rashad’s name was etched in Vikings lore. “The thing that people don’t understand about things like that is we all expected it,” Rashad said Wednesday. “It wasn’t a surprise. We knew when the started to change that we were going to win the game.

“I knew I was going to catch the ball. I knew we were going to win the thing. It was just one of those kinds of things that added on to the legend of the north.”

The NFL ranked Rashad’s grab fourth in its list of the Top 10 Hail Mary passes of all time.
