It was Christian Ramirez’s game tonight, for better and for worse.
A Ramirez own-goal in the 84th minute canceled out his game-tying goal 18 minutes before, as Minnesota United’s chance at a point disappeared against the Los Angeles Galaxy, falling 2-1 at TCF Bank Stadium.
While the Loons dominated possession percentage, it felt as though the Galaxy had control through most of the first half. There were great opportunities to get on the board from both sides, but Bobby Shuttleworth and Brian Rowe both kept their backline in check in the first half hour.
That ended off a ridiculous karate kick goal by LA striker Giovani dos Santos, a goal that felt like it was coming. The ESPN crew loved this.
This sparked a good run of shots (and domination of possession percentage) that gave the Loons the momentum they needed to get back into the game.
But while Christian Ramirez was able to tie it up with a goal in the 66th minute (his 7th of the season), an own-goal in the 84th was ultimately what lost it.
The Loons will remain at home this week, facing Orlando City FC on Saturday at 7pm, televised on My 29.
