Top 10 NBA Tidbits: What's Next for Derrick Rose?

This week had its fair share of storylines. From weird player situations, to fun games, to Kyrie Irving without a mask, this week had plenty to offer.

Timberwolves Schedule

Nov. 28 – vs. Washington

Nov. 29 – @ New Orleans

Dec. 1 – @ Oklahoma City

Dec. 3 – vs. Los Angeles Clippers

The Timberwolves are Coming Together

The Timberwolves sit at 12-8 thus far with some statement wins over teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder and Utah Jazz, along with unfortunate losses to the Phoenix Suns and Indiana Pacers. But the team has started to round out, slowly grinding away at the hard edges to begin looking like a playoff-quality team.

They are growing while winning games, and while many will complain about something like a loss to the Suns, they are coming along nicely regardless. Headed into their toughest week of basketball yet, it’s time to find out how far the team has come since the Oct. 18 season opener.

The Timberwolves Might be Stacked at Guard

In the 119-108 win over the Suns on Nov. 26, the Timberwolves started Tyus Jones at point guard because of a sore right achilles to Jeff Teague. The result was a great defensive performance from the young guard, who posted nine points along with seven assists and seven steals. He facilitated offense exceptionally, all while grabbing extra possessions on the other end.

This is definitely not a call to bench Teague – something that has already crept over the web – but rather a praise for a potentially great point guard tandem to be for the Timberwolves. The ability to plug to point guards in a system without worrying about production loss is a huge luxury. Over the next week, Jones will look to back up Sunday’s stellar performance.

Mask Or No Mask, Kyrie Will Cross You

Do not sleep on Kyrie Irving.

Tony Parker is Back for the Spurs

The question is, does this impact the San Antonio Spurs enough to elevate the roster’s performance?

Is De’Aaron Fox the Next Great Guard in the West?

Lonzo Ball was the point guard out of the 2017 draft “chosen” to be great. However, Sacramento’s De’Aaron Fox has looked like the better pick thus far. He is a solid defender, all while posting 10.7 points and 4.5 assists per game, while only playing 26.6 minutes per game.

Back-to-Back MVP Runs for Harden

James Harden is coming back strong after finishing as last season’s runner-up to the MVP trophy. He is averaging 31.4 and 9.8 assists per night this season in a dash to try and snag the award in a heavily-contested race.

It’s time for Rose to go

After failed stints with both the New York Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers, point guard Derrick Rose is again out of basketball. After an MVP season 2007, Rose struggled through ACL injuries and rehabbing back to health. After being traded to New York, he looked good in spots, but then disappeared for undisclosed “family issues” that he said he needed resolving.

Now he has left his second team for reasons outside of the game.

It is time to let Rose go. The player that captured the MVP trophy and electrified arenas with his dazzling speed and change of pace is gone. The Rose story is done.

Wiggins: The 20-Point Machine

Andrew Wiggins has topped 20 points in 11 of his 20 starts, which is a team best. Wiggins is the most consistent source of offense for the Timberwolves, with nowhere to go but up.

Game To Watch: Washington @ Minnesota on Tuesday, Nov. 28

This will be a star-studded cast, even with John Wall’s absence. With the Timberwolves playing host, and Wall’s absence, this should be a Timberwolves victory. However, Bradley Beal will keep this game interesting, especially when considering how they’ve done against perimeter shooting over the past couple weeks.

Game To Watch: Philadelphia @ Boston on Thursday, Nov. 30

This game involves what will end up being a nice chunk of the Eastern Conference All-Star contingency. Make sure to tune in.
