Life and Fantasy Football: True Life Story

Balancing life and fantasy football can be a lot of work in itself. But when you find that right balance, it makes getting into the industry a little easier. There is a lot about me I could go on and on about, so I will make it shorter for everyone. I will start off with the more important part, fantasy football. I’m kidding! I will tell you about myself and my family.

I grew up in a small town in southeastern Minnesota loving all sports. Now, I love the Vikings, but they’re not “my team.” Here is the reasoning behind this. My father is a huge Vikings fan of course. But in 1998, due to making me so angry because he wouldn’t let me have more chocolate (I was 12), I became a Falcons fan.

Fast forward years and years, we end up where I met my wife. We got married a little over a year ago. I mentioned before how hard it is to balance fantasy and family and without her help, I wouldn’t be able to be where I’m at in the fantasy industry. We have a wonderful daughter who is three years old and a future offensive lineman in my five-month-old son.

Now we get into the meat and potatoes, the fantasy side. I started playing fantasy football in 2009. I started late because, truth be told, hockey was the sport of choice for my younger years. My first league was a superflex, keeper league with Nic Hallett (of Cold Omaha FC), I instantly fell in love.

A little look back: I took Michael Turner over Adrian Peterson.

In the following years, I added another redraft league and kept getting so close to the title. This was thanks to handcuffing Larry Johnson with a guy called Jamaal Charles. It wasn’t until 2011 I was asked into my first dynasty league. I was skeptical but jumped into it. When I say jump into it, I went right into the deep end with an IDP, contract and salary league. I took over an orphan team, which if you didn’t know, is the most difficult things to take on in life. Finally in 2015, thanks to Devonta Freeman, I won my first ever fantasy championship. It was then when I felt the itch to start writing.

In the 2016 offseason, I started writing for DynastyNerds.com. That writing turned into ranking for them as well. Later on in the year, we brainstormed about a video podcast, which sadly fell apart, and gave me an opportunity to branch out and start my own podcast. I approached a fellow writer and we then started the Dynasty Happy Hour podcast.

Last summer, I was given the opportunity to write for the Fantasy Footballers. I took the position and started writing for them. After my second article, I made the choice to step back from the Footballers and focus on Dynasty Happy Hour. In 2017, we launched our website dynastyhappyhour.com and all that comes with it.

Finding a balance between fantasy and family can be tough. When you find someone who helps balance the two, thanks again Amanda, you are able to have a great hobby and even better life. Keeping that balance I am now bringing you some sleepers, hot takes, love/hate, and of course dynasty articles and information here at Zone Coverage.

Thanks for hearing my story.
