Zach LaVine Out for the Season with ACL Injury

The Minnesota Timberwolves have announced today that guard Zach LaVine will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. The MRI was taken this morning at Mayo Clinic by Team Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Diane Dahm.

The injury occurred in Friday’s 116-108 loss to the Detroit Pistons. “Further updates as to LaVine’s progress will be issued when more information becomes available,” read a team statement.

LaVine is up for a contract extension this summer. “Implications from the injury could force him to instead test restricted free agency in 2018,” reads an SI Wire post, “depending on his recovery and the front office’s approach as they continue to build out the roster.”

He averaged a career-high 18.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and three assists this season in 47 games.
