2018 MSHSL Girls Hockey Tournament Recap: Day 2 - Class AA Quarterfinals

Thursday the big schools took center stage in St. Paul, as the Girls’ Class AA quarterfinals were held. Let’s check in on the highlights…

No. 2 Centennial 2, Lakeville South 0

Allison Pitlick scored in the first and Anneke Linser — who also had 13 shots on goal — added an insurance goal late in the third to give the Cougars the win and send them on to the semifinals. Mackenna Stoterau made 32 saves, 17 of which came in the final frame to earn a shutout.

Eagan 2, No. 3 Hill-Murray 1

For the second day in a row, the No. 3 seed is upset as Hill-Murray fell to Eagan. A pair of goals in the latter half of the second period were all the offense the Wildcats needed, as they relied heavily on their goaltender — Maddie Nickell, who made 26 saves — to secure the upset.

No. 1 Edina 4, Brainerd 0

The top-ranked Hornets steamrolled their way to the semifinals, as they only allowed 10 shots on goal to their opponent Brainerd. Brooke Tucker was the only Hornet to register multiple points, putting in a pair of assists. There were four goal scorers for the Hornets, including Ms. Hockey finalist Emily Oden.

No. 5 Eden Prairie 2, No. 4 Andover 0

A goal from Crystalyn Hengler 1:16 into the third period proved to be the game-winner, as Alexa Dobchuk made all 29 saves — including 14 in the third period — for the Eagles. Eden Prairie will move on to play Edina on Friday night
