Diggs, Keenum Claim ESPY for Walk-Off Touchdown

The Minneapolis Miracle was certainly a high point for many Minnesota sports fans — not just for last season, but perhaps for all time.

Stefon Diggs’ 61-yard walk-off touchdown that propelled the Vikings over the New Orleans Saints in the playoffs last January earned national recognition Wednesday night when it won the ESPY Award for Best Moment. Diggs and then-Vikings-quarterback Case Keenum were there to accept it.

The game-winning score sent Minnesotans into a state of hysteria and elicited a barrage of emotional reaction videos that popped up on YouTube the week following the game.

There was stiff competition for the award in a year when some unprecedented things happened in the sports world. Underdog 16-seed UMBC knocked off 1-seed Virginia to become the first 16 seed ever to win a Men’s NCAA Tournament game, and in hockey the Las Vegas Golden Knights reached the Stanley Cup Final as an expansion team.

But in terms of great individual moments, Notre Dame’s dramatic buzzer beater to win the women’s national championship over Mississippi State might have been the worthiest foe.

In the end, the first-ever walk-off regulation touchdown in NFL playoff history was enough to earn the award.
