Additions, Omissions to Vikings Practice Squad

The Minnesota Vikings signed nine of a possible 10 players to their practice squad Sunday, wrapping up a busy weekend of transactions.

The team brought back wide receivers Jeff Badet and Chad Beebe, linebackers Reshard Cliett and Garret Dooley, defensive tackle Curtis Cothran, center Cornelius Edison, guard Colby Gossett, tackle Storm Norton and safety Jack Tocho after waiving all nine of them on Saturday. That gives the Vikings five offensive players and four defensive players on the practice squad at the moment.

Among those absent from the squad are wide receiver Jake Wieneke and defensive lineman Ifeadi Odenigbo. Wieneke was beat out by Beebe and Badet, who have more special teams value, and Odenigbo was claimed by the Cleveland Browns after having a strong preseason.

Getting Edison through to the practice squad was also a win for the Vikings since Edison spent most of the preseason with the first team, giving him more experience than most practice squad centers.

In all likelihood the Vikings will add a defensive player as their 10th man — maybe a cornerback. The two corners they waived on Saturday were waived with injury designations, which would prevent them from being on the practice squad. The Vikings may have to look outside of their former 90-man roster to fill that position if they desire.
