A four-year defensive end at Texas, Charles Omenihu kept improving as he was given more opportunities, capping his career with 9.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss as a first-team All-Big 12 senior and getting on the Day 2 draft radar. His listed 6-foot-7 height on Texas’ official website might have been a little misleading as he measured closer to 6-5 at the combine. But he pumped up his stock with a strong combine overall. Analysts still consider him a work in progress after a four-year career, but he’s shown an encouragingly linear improvement so far.

Size

6-5, 280 pounds

Combine notables

40-yard dash: 4.92 seconds (7th at position)
Vertical: 36.5 inches (2nd at position)
Broad jump: 115 inches
3-cone drill: 7.48 seconds
20-yard shuttle: 4.36 seconds (T5th at position)

What the analysts say

“Omenihu steps off the bus with a physique that says NFL defensive end, but his skill-set and football acumen are still very raw. He looks like a 5-technique and lines up there, but he simply doesn’t have the grit or anchor needed for that line of work. As a 4-3 end, Omenihu sets a stronger edge and has shown some potential to mix power with get-off as a rusher. His game lacks instincts and consistency, but he’s got the traits and potential to become an eventual starter if he can continue his development.” – Lance Zierlein, NFL.com

“Omenihu should be one of the biggest risers of the pre-draft process, particularly when more analysts get a chance to look at his tape and see minimal weaknesses coupled with a complete skill set. Omenihu’s length, explosiveness and physicality make him extremely difficult to handle 1v1, both in the run game and as a pass rusher. His growth this season and his versatility to play all over the defensive front are both extremely encouraging from an NFL evaluation standpoint.” – Jon Ledyard, The Draft Network
