The tradition of terrific quarterbacking continued at Ohio State last year with Dwayne Haskins, 21,  leading the Big Ten in virtually every category in his first year as a full-time starter. The big-bodied passer finished 2018 with 50 touchdowns (NCAA-leading), 4,831 yards and just eight interceptions. He had nine games with over 300 yards and five games with over 400 yards as he led the Buckeyes to a Rose Bowl victory.

Haskins didn’t demonstrate great mobility in his NFL Combine drills, but his arm is the real tool. With only one season under his belt – and the aid of superior skill players around him at Ohio State – he may not be ready-made to win immediately as a rookie. He’s been frequently linked to the New York Giants, who could be looking for Eli Manning’s successor.

What the analysts say

“Big and talented with explosive arm talent but limited mobility Haskins is a chance-taker with the arm strength to get away with some tight window throws that most in this class can’t make. Haskins is still very early in his journey and is prone to misreading coverage and stalling in getting through his progressions. While this is normal for an inexperienced quarterback, Haskins is going to be forced to learn on the fly against NFL speed and defensive coordinators conspiring to defeat him.” – Lance Zierlein, NFL.com

“Dwayne Haskins projects as a prototypical pocket passer in the NFL. Haskins’ best system fit is an offense that implements a lot of work in the intermediate areas of the field to capitalize on his accuracy to that area and mitigate his longer drops and prolonged reps holding the ball within the pocket. Haskins’ ceiling will be determined by how much more accurate he can get his deep ball and getting his decision making process to speed up. Is not overly effective beating pressure.” – Kyle Crabbs, The Draft Network
