One of the great stories in the NFL Draft, Rock Ya-Sin turned an unfavorable situation in a positive one as his previous school, Presbyterian, moved from FCS to the Division II level. Ya-Sin was a late transfer to Temple in the AAC, but he made an impact in short order with 12 passes defended in his lone year with the Owls (fourth best in the conference). Strong as a tackler and in coverage. In high school, he was a wrestling champion at about 50 pounds lighter weight and didn’t begin playing football until his junior year.

Had a strange combine with a great vertical but a poor broad jump and poor quickness drills.

Size

6-0, 192 pounds

Combine notables

40-yard dash: 4.51 seconds
Bench: 18 reps (T2nd at position)
Vertical: 39.5 inches (T5th at position)
Broad jump: 120 inches (T4th worst at position)
3-cone drill: 7.31 seconds (T2nd worst at position)
20-yard shuttle: 4.31 seconds (T2nd worst at position)

What the analysts say

“Body-beautiful cornerback with good size and potential, but just one year of FBS football experience. Ya-Sin needs technique work across the board, but the ability to handle the duties of the position are all in place and waiting to be unlocked. He has the strength, toughness and feet to go from shadowing presence to a more disruptive one as a press-man corner. His lack of technique allows for some pitch-and-catch moments in coverage, but he has moldable traits to become a future starter with more experience and coaching.” – Lance Zierlein, NFL.com

“I think he’s one of the top press-man cornerbacks in the class at the line of scrimmage, and his size and length indicate that ability will carry over into the NFL. Unfortunately he has to be physical in order to win and stay in phase, as Ya-Sin doesn’t have the best mirror-and-match ability due to his lack of fluidity and change-of-direction. He will give up catches underneath on routes breaking back to the ball, but he’s a sure tackler and has done a great job of preventing vertical shots by playing through the pocket when the ball comes over the top and adjusting wonderfully to back-shoulder throws while staying in phase.” – Jon Ledyard, The Draft Network
