Disruptive Notre Dame linebacker Te’Von Coney hopes to break into the second-tier of prospects at his position in a weak draft class. Coney saw his snaps almost double from junior to senior year, and while his production didn’t increase all that much in terms of sacks and tackles, he got vastly better in coverage though still has work to do there. Coney, a bit undersized, finished his Notre Dame career with seven sacks, 23 tackles for loss and two 100-tackle seasons. He didn’t test at the Combine and had an average Pro Day. Has a marijuana possession arrest in his past.

What the analysts say

“Coney is an average athlete with average size but shows an impressive resilience to stay alive and make tackles, even when he looks like he might be blocked. He’s consistent as a square-up, wrap-up tackler, but teams might want to see him play with more juice as a disruptor willing to take a few more downhill chances. If he runs well and adds some beef, Coney could project as an average starter at a two-down, inside linebacker spot.” – Lance Zierlein, NFL.com

“LB Te’Von Coney projects as an early down linebacker at the NFL level. Coney’s range and impact on passing downs are major hurdles to a featured role, but his physical limitations present a very limited ceiling with little room for growth. Coney has the physicality to be a force defender in the box and plug up gaps. Coney is ideally a rotational defender who gets run in early downs and short yardage situations, although that role comes with a limited value.” – Kyle Crabbs, The Draft Network
