Degenerates

Miami (OH)/Buffalo over 56.5 (-110): Both of these teams played weak offenses in their first and only games this season. Both of these teams gave up 30-plus to those weak offenses. The Buffalo score is a bit misleading because they had three defensive scores, but even without those it still would’ve been over this total.

Miami wants to throw a lot this season with AJ Mayer and a stable of fast receivers, and they’ll need to with a defense that struggles in all phases. Buffalo will also find holes all night for speedy RB Jaret Patterson. I’m expecting these offenses to be far ahead of the defenses, as has been the trend early in seasons, and to put up plenty of points on a clear and warm night.

Ohio -27.5 (-110): One thing I love about the MAC is the predictably terrible teams are always terrible — there isn’t much change year over year. This Akron team is perennially terrible. After getting blown out at home last week 58-13, the Zips have to visit an Ohio team very much in need of a win.

I was impressed by the efficiency of freshman Bobcats QB Kurtis Rourke last week, and he should have a very easy time against this horrible Akron defense after it gets gashed by De’Montre Tuggle. These teams met in the final regular season game last year and Ohio won 52-3. While it might not be that extreme, there’s a massive talent gap here, and a four-touchdown spread shouldn’t scare you off. Don’t let this one go over -28 if you’re going to take it.
