Degenerates

NCAA Basketball – Arizona St/Rhode Island over 151 (-110): I can’t wait to see this Arizona State team in action. Coach Bobby Hurley loves to push the pace, and he has the scorers to do it with senior guards Remy Martin and Alonzo Verge. They’ve also added Josh Christopher, maybe the best pure scoring freshman in the country.

Rhode Island was a very solid team last year, and they return senior guard Fatts Russell who should contend for A10 player of the year. The key to this matchup is that neither team expected to play each other, but now they will meet due to COVID cancelations. With little time to game plan for each other, I think offense will dictate the outcome here, and the pace that ASU wants to play at will pull this over the total.

NCAA Basketball – North Carolina -17 (-110): This is not a fair matchup athletically for Charleston. Last season you could’ve made a case for the Cougars to get inside this number, but that’s when they had Grant Riller and when UNC had one of their worst seasons in recent memory.

Riller is gone to the NBA, and the Tar Heels are healthy now and have the deepest front line rotation in the country. I think this could be close at halftime, but eventually the size, strength, and speed of UNC will be too much for Charleston and the flood gates will open. Roy Williams will want to make a statement that the Heels are back in the ACC, and this is a great opportunity for that.

NCAA Basketball – Clemson -4.5 (-110): I’m going to trust the more experienced squad in this neutral site game, and that’s Clemson. The Tigers have a roster loaded with juniors and seniors, led by do-it-all point forward Aamir Simms. On the other side, Mississippi State lost most of last season’s production to the NBA, and are full of freshmen and sophomores. Most SEC observers are picking the Bulldogs to finish bottom 3 in the league because of that inexperience. Give me Clemson here in a game that should see a final result closer to 10 points.
