Following the Minnesota Vikings win over the Chicago Bears, my mindless Twitter scrolling was filled with overwhelming positivity from the community. Whether it was the lack of Kirk Cousins slander or jubilation over Justin Jefferson’s absurd freshman campaign, all I saw on my feed was sunshine and rainbows.
It was nice for a change, but as all Vikings fans know all good things come to a quick and painful end when it comes to this team. A single tweet ruined this seemingly limitless euphoria I was experiencing coming off another divisional win.
I had to put on my muckraking hat to see if this push to put Yannick Ngakoue in the Pro Bowl was indeed happening. I first went to the Jacksonville Jaguars reddit, and what I found was not encouraging.
Surely the Vikings draft pick that is being sent over to the Jacksonville Jaguars isn’t contingent on various reddit campaigns, right?
In a desperation effort, I checked the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints reddit pages’ hoping to find the absence of this devious plan, but once again Ngakoue was plastered atop each respective subreddit.
Whether or not Ngakoue actually gets voted into the Pro Bowl, let’s take a step back and appreciate how absurd this situation is. The future of a Vikings draft pick is in the hands of fans. These are the same fans that deemed Xavier Rhodes, one of the worst cornerbacks in football last season, worthy of a Pro Bowl spot.
Also the Pro Bowl, which is being played on Madden 21 this year, has been a complete joke every year.
I’m not going to lie; this is an awesome campaign from Jaguars fans. I will never be one to condemn hustle, and that’s exactly what is happening here. I will, however, bring this trade even further into question on Rick Spielman’s end. After cutting ties with Ngakoue, he already downgraded from a second-round pick to third. But to put the fate of a conditional fifth on the Pro Bowl is downright laughable.
If Ngakoue was to make the Pro Bowl, the Vikings would send a fourth-round pick to the Jaguars instead of a fifth. On top of that, if Ngakoue and the Ravens win the Super Bowl, that pick turns into a third-rounder.
The whole situation is ridiculous, and I won’t stand for it. Although Vikings fans cannot stop the impending ballot stuffing for Ngakoue, they can ballot stuff someone else.
After reviewing the possible candidates, I have made the decision on behalf of Vikings fans that former Golden Gopher and current Chiefs linebacker Damien Wilson will be the face of the Ngakoue counter. Not only is he more deserving, but he has a Minnesota connection.
So, tell your friends, families and AFC South foes to get out and vote for Wilson. The Ngakoue for Pro Bowl movement has proven that the internet is strong, so let’s prove that point with a movement of our own.
