NCAA Football (1 Unit) 2-Team 6 Point Teaser

Clemson @ Syracuse +19.5: 6:00 PM CT on ESPN

The fact that Clemson is laying two touchdowns to any Power 5 school right now, especially on the road, is pure madness. Sure they’re coming off a bye that perhaps got their offense on track, but this is a team averaging 12.5 PPG against Power 5 competition on the season. They also have a minus-1 score differential against those opponents, and going back to last season have failed to cover in six straight during their overall 5-13 ATS run.

Syracuse has given Clemson fits over the years, and while they already have 3 losses on the season those have come by a total of 16 points. This will be a strength-on-strength game, with an excellent Orange rushing attack going against a Tigers defense that’s 20th in rushing yards allowed and 2nd in points allowed. That tells me we’re in for a low-scoring slugfest, and with this many points in hand, I see an easy cover for the ‘Cuse on the teased number.

California/Oregon Under 60: 9:30 PM CT on ESPN

For years this was a very high-scoring rivalry with high octane offenses dictating every game. But since Mario Cristobal took over at Oregon and Justin Wilcox took the reins at Cal, their preference toward defense has defined these programs. It shows in the results of the 2019 and 2020 seasons, as those meetings had 24 and 38 points, respectively. And Cal really amps up the defense against tough opponents, as the under is 10-1 against ranked teams since Wilcox took over.

The loss of CJ Verdell for Oregon really hurts their offense – especially with how much they look to run the ball – and an already strong Cal run defense should further hamper the Ducks offense. But a big key to this game is that Oregon has had a bye week to stew over their shocking loss to Stanford. The late defensive collapse in that game should motivate the Ducks to be better here, and they get to face a Cal team that’s only scored 30 total points in two conference games so far. Being able to tease this total through several key numbers creates a lot of value in what is looking like a defensive-oriented game.
