It seems pretty simple. When Justin Jefferson gets the ball the Vikings win, when he doesn’t they don’t. Minnesota is 5-0 when Jefferson has 7 catches or more and 0-6 when he has less. The young superstar has catapulted himself up into the statistical realm of Randy Moss and caught the attention of fans, peers, and the national media.
Speaking of the latter, it’s time to officially throw Bill Simmons onto the Justin Jefferson bandwagon. The extremely successful podcast host tossed huge compliments Jefferson’s way on an episode of his show this week.
Shortly after disparaging Kirk Cousins for his lack of leadership by saying “There are these games where like aren’t you supposed to be the leader of the team? The rock? Instead, he has the body language of a guy getting a parking ticket???” Simmons turned his focus to the young Jefferson:
“Justin Jefferson is the new leader, and he seems like an awesome guy by the way. I’m pro Justin Jefferson, I like him. He had two times [Sunday] where it was a terrible Cousins pass where he just lost his vertebrae for like a second. You remember the old Larry Fitzgerald with those terrible Cardinals QBs, the throw over his head where he would just be like ‘O My God’, he was doing that! He did that twice today, Jefferson did! Justin Jefferson is a treasure, I love that guy.”
He’s already getting the Randy Moss comparison. Why not throw Larry Fitzgerald in there too? Every time a big national name brings Jefferson more into the spotlight we get closer to the whole world realizing he’s not just good for Minnesota or good for his age, he’s already one of the best receivers in the game. And, if Minnesota and Cousins can figure out how to get him the ball on a more consistent basis they have a good chance to win a lot of football games.
