Justin Jefferson Joins Some Very Elite Company

It’s near impossible to find any bright spots in the Minnesota Vikings abysmal loss to the Detroit Lions. But if you swallow your anger and focus hard enough, you can find one. just one. With his performance on Sunday Justin Jefferson catapulted himself further amongst elite company both this season and historically.

While the rest of the team was floundering, Jefferson hauled in 11 catches for 182 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. His spectacular performance was enough to put him at the top of the list for most receiving yards since the start of last season. And don’t forget, the man didn’t see action in the first two weeks of 2020!

Most receiving yards since start of 2020 season:

Justin Jefferson* 2,609
Davante Adams 2,457
Stefon Diggs 2,382
Cooper Kupp 2,340
Travis Kelce 2,264

Jefferson also passed Jerry Rice for 3rd most receiving yards by a player in his first 2 seasons joining Odell Beckham Jr. and Randy Moss as the only players with 2,500+ receiving yards in their first 2 years in the Super Bowl era. There are still 5 games remaining! He will smash the record.

On pace for 110 receptions, 1712 yards, and 10 TDs Jefferson also just notched the most prolific four-game stretch for a wide receiver in Minnesota Vikings history:

As fans suffer through another horrifically mediocre season it’s important to remember that there are some pieces in place. You would be hard-pressed to find a better set of weapons on a worst-performing team in the league. Jefferson is an absolute Superstar and when combined with one of the League’s best running backs and another top 20 receiver there’s no reason that whatever rebuild takes place after the season can’t be a quick one that brings to purple back to relevance.
