Sometimes it takes an all-time great to know an all-time great. The Aaron Rodgers saga appears to have no end in sight. As we head towards mandatory training camp, an increasing number of superstars are weighing in on what might be going on between Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers organization.

The most recent former player to come out and speak about this situation is none other than former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Cris Carter. Recently, the Hall of Fame wideout has been known more as an outspoken member of the media from his time on FS1’s First Things First to his advice to NFL rookies to have “a fall guy” for potential legal trouble. Carter appeared on KFAN’s Bumper to Bumper with Dan Barreiro to weigh in on the Rodgers situation.

“I think Aaron is a different guy,” he told the popular drivetime radio host, “and I think when a guy is different, you’ve gotta respect that. And also kinda the unknown. I believe that Aaron will be playing football, and I believe his feelings were hurt over the last several years, as far as his involvement with the club and what they were doing. The lack of personnel moves that they were making, trying to get him a second Super Bowl.

“Then he has a tremendous season last year. He was the MVP of the league. To me, he’s a temperamental guy. I think this is a little bit about respect, but I think it’s about money. I guarantee you, if they came to him with a 4-year, $160 million contract, most of that being guaranteed, I believe most of this would go away.”

Carter later provided an anecdote about what happened when the Vikings drafted Randy Moss in 1998.

“I’m very familiar with how the business is done,” he said. “In 1998, when Denny Green called me, and they drafted Randy Moss, as soon as me and Denny got off the phone, I called [former Vikings GM] Jeff Diamond and told him I need a contract extension, or I wasn’t coming to Minnesota.

“I wasn’t gonna have them shortening my career by drafting him,” he said. “I never said anything about it, never told anything to anybody, and me and the Vikings just handled that business behind closed doors.”

While Love looks to be the future with the Packers, Rodgers gives them the best chance to compete with some of their players in the primes of their career, like Aaron Jones and Davante Adams. Carter and the Vikings were able to work out a deal that gave Carter long-term stability with the franchise, but it is important to remember that you can play two wide receivers on the field simultaneously where they can complement each other. The same cannot be said about two quarterbacks.

If the Packers want to end the will they-won’t they surrounding the franchise and Rodgers, they should follow what Carter said and commit to Rodgers long-term and give him the money he desires.
