NFL Insider Names Vikings As Sleeper For Deshaun Watson

While the Minnesota Vikings continue their search for a general manager and head coach to lead this team in the future, they might also be considering making a big move when it comes to the quarterback position. NFL insider Jordan Schultz believes that the Vikings are the biggest sleepers in the sweepstakes for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

The 26-year-old play-caller from the university of Clemson set the league on fire in his first three seasons with the Texans before requesting a trade last offseason while Houston made changes in the front office and the coaching staff. Watson also experienced trouble off of the field this offseason. 22 women came out against him, accusing him of sexual misconduct and sexual assault, which Watson has denied. Despite never being officially suspended or placed on any reserve list, Watson was inactive for every single game of this past season with “non-injury reasons/personal matter.”

Schultz speculates that even with the organizational changes that the Vikings are going through, replacing the head coach and general manager simultaneously, they could still make a move for Watson.

Schultz says that Watson would at least “consider waiving his no-trade clause for a chance to play in Minnesota.” Schultz also says that “despite not having a GM or Head Coach right now, the Vikings believe internally that Kirk Cousins is not a Super Bowl-caliber quarterback.”

Despite the Vikings missing the playoffs this season, Schultz believes that the Vikings are “built to win right now. They have an established offensive line, two great wide receivers in Thielen and Jefferson, an elite running back in Dalvin Cook.”

Though he does acknowledge that the defense does need some work, Schultz believes the Vikings can contend with the offensive firepower that they currently have. He believes that if the Vikings add Watson, they will be contenders.

While this might seem unlikely, it might not be too far-fetched given what Vikings president Mark Wilf said about wanting to contend next season and this not being a full rebuild.

The Minnesota Vikings drafted two first-round-quality defensive backs this year: Lewis Cine, who was literally a first-rounder, and Andrew Booth Jr. I’ve been preaching that the new front […]
