At first we thought he was going to wind up with the hated Bears. But it turns out former Packers fan favorite, Kurt Benkert, has landed with a more current hated rival.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the San Francisco 49ers are signing Bbenkert to their practice squad after losing Trey Lance to a season-ending ankle injury against the Seahawks.
Benkert found his way into Packer fans heart by being the mouthpiece of the fanbase in defending Aaron Rodgers and the organization from constant ridiculous attacks from the national sports media. The man was still reppin’ Packers as recently as the Sunday night Chicago game.
As much as I’m happy to see Benkert get a job, and I truly am, come on man. The two options were our longest hated rival and the team I currently despise the most? The Niners? The team that keeps tearing our postseasons away from us? Those Niners? Come. On.
The former number 3 in Green Bay will fill the same role in San Francisco behind Jimmy Garoppolo and backup Brock Purdy. Here’s to wishing Benkert the best and hoping we don’t have to play a team that he’s on in the playoffs. I don’t need one of our former fan-favorites giving away team secrets leading up to the biggest game of the year. Good luck Kurt.
