Green Bay Packers Get More Bad Wide Receiver News

The Green Bay Packers wide receiver room with Delta another blow Friday afternoon just a head of their huge match up with the Tampa Bay buccaneers. Sammy Watkins has officially been declared out.

It’s not all together surprising as Watkins was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice but sat out Thursday and Friday with a hamstring issue. But given Randall Cobb (illness) and rookie Christian Watson (hamstring) are also questionable Green Bay was certainly hoping for a better outcome.

It’s a tough loss for a team that could use every weapon it has it can get heading into a match up with what looks like the league’s premier defense. And Aaron Rodgers knows exactly how important Sammy Watkins is telling reporters on Wednesday;

“I knew of Sammy and I watched him a little bit, but I didn’t have a real familiarity with him, so I didn’t have any expectations or projections when he came in, he’s just come in and been a fantastic teammate and a great guy and a really deep thinker and an interesting guy and interests outside of football and very well-spoken and curious, just a fantastic guy. I’ve loved our conversations together. He loves ball, he cares about it. He realizes how special this opportunity is for him and we want him to have success and for this to be a trampoline to the second half of his career.”

Watkins has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career And hopefully this isn’t a start of a trend in Green Bay. If the young wide receivers can grow and Lazard and Watkins can stay healthy throughout the year they have the making of a group that could prove a lot of people wrong.

Speaking of Allen Lazard, he also didn’t practice on Friday but is expected to play. Fingers crossed that Watson and Cobb can join him and the Packers can get a tough victory against one of the top teams in the league.
