Keisean Nixon Has A Crazy Idea For Matt Lafleur

Keisean Nixon has a crazy idea. An idea so crazy that it just might be brilliant. The young defensive back and breakout special teams star for the Green Bay Packers has been lobbying his head coach, Matt Lafleur, to play in the slot. And we’re not talking slot corner.

That’s right, the dynamic athlete who has captured Cheeseheads’ attention since Green Bay released Amari Rodgers wants to show what he can do on the offensive side of the ball.

Obviously Nixon’s health has come into question after leaving the win in Miami, but along with other important Packers, Nixon seems on track to play this weekend. And what better time to let one of your best playmakers surprise the other team than against a division rival with the season on the line.

There was a day and age in professional football where an idea like this would be considered ludicrous, but this isn’t your boring dad‘s NFL. Cordarrelle Patterson is a successful running back after spending years proving his athleticism as a kick returner, Deebo Samuel is the ultimate Swiss Army tool, and Taysom Hill is successfully doing whatever you call it that Taysom Hill does. With complexity, disguised schemes, and unpredictability holding extremely high value on the offenses side of the ball, it’s not unreasonable to think that if you just put an awesome athlete in a position to be an awesome athlete, they can succeed.

And boy oh boy, is this dude an athlete.

With the two young superstars in Watson and Doubs breaking out, why wouldn’t you try this? I’m not saying start him in the slot and give him a ton of snaps, but bring him in, make him a weapon, and scare defenses across the league? Feels like a no-brainer.

Nixon’s speed and ability in the open field are unmatched. If Green Bay can get him the ball in good situations, not only can you create explosive plays but he adds another thing to the list that defensive coordinators have to prepare for moving forward.

Honestly, it’s the least Matt LaFleur can do for taking so long to switch Nixon into the return game. Give the youngster a shot to prove himself, and worst-case scenario it’s a failed experiment in an already difficult year. Best-case scenario, you have an ultimate weapon on your team moving forward and it helps influence how you build your off-season plans.

Plus, fun fact, Keisean Nixon is Snoop Dogg’s nephew and any opportunity to get someone related to Snoop Dogg celebrating in the end zone more often is an opportunity worth pursuing. Go Pack Go.
