The Green Bay Packers have a young and exciting receiving corps. Jordan Love has many fun options at his disposal, from speedster Christian Watson to elite route runner Dontayvion Wicks to playmaker Jayden Reed.
However, Romeo Doubs often gets lost in the mix. Whether it’s his quiet nature or lack of outstanding skills in a specific area, Doubs tends not to get as much attention as Green Bay’s other receivers.
Doubs will burn opposing defenses if they ignore him, and Matt LaFleur recognizes that he’s an impact player.
I think Rome had an outstanding spring. And it’s evident by the work that he puts in on a daily basis. He’s in there in the morning, one of the last guys to leave the building. He’s very deliberate about the work that he puts in, and I think it shows. We challenged him on a couple of things that we thought he could really do a better job with, and he’s embraced that. He’s had a lot of great moments. As a matter of fact, I can’t think of a bad day that he’d had out there. He is definitely improving.
Doubs improved dramatically from his first season in Green Bay to his second. He’ll look to make a similar jump this next season. In his rookie year, Doubs caught 42 of his 67 targets for 425 yards and three scores. In his sophomore season, Doubs caught 69 of his 108 targets for 908 yards and nine touchdowns, if you include playoff numbers.
The Nevada product tripled his touchdown total, which led the team, doubled his yardage, and brought his yards-per-reception numbers up from 10.1 to 13.2. Doubs had nearly 1,000 yards and is only improving.
“I thought it was progressive,” Doubs said. “I’m not big on good or bad. I think alignment is everything. And just throughout the course of the start of this offseason, every day, it was something I can get better at, and that’s what I look forward to throughout the course of this summer and going into camp.”
Only the Packers know how they will deploy their quartet of your wideouts. However, they should include Doubs in their main rotation of players. Doubs does everything you want and does it well. He may not have elite speed or after-the-catch ability, but his route running, hands, and jump-ball ability are superb.
Doubs has a little bit of Davante Adams in him when it comes to getting open near the goal line. He has a nose for the end zone and was tied for fourth in the NFL in touchdown receptions last season.
Some of these highlights are truly spectacular.
The humble Doubs usually doesn’t make headlines, but his production on the field speaks for itself. There is absolutely no reason he can’t put up 1,000 yards this season.
The third-year receiver has been working hard this offseason and has impressed coaches. They appear to have more trust and confidence in him than ever before.
With Love getting increasingly better with more snaps, Green Bay’s offensive ceiling is truly limitless. Doubs is a key component to that, though. Having an ultra-reliable, all-situations wide receiver is nice.
Doubs doesn’t always get the most attention from the media and has a low-key personality. However, he’s a monster on the field. If you’re sleeping on him this upcoming season, wake up.
