NFL (1 Unit) 2-Team 6 Point Teaser (-110; Odds via Caesars)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers +8.5 @ Houston Texans: 6:00 PM CT on ABC
I think the Bucs are very much live dogs in this game, so being able to pad that theory with more than a full possession’s worth of points is a great play in my opinion. It all starts up front, as a Houston offensive line widely regarded as the league’s worst has to face the talented defensive line of Tampa. That was a matchup that did the Texans no favors last week against the Rams, and I see it dragging them down all season long.
And while Houston has their own elite defense, the Bucs have arguably the deepest skill corps in the NFL and Baker Mayfield is playing some high-level football right now. Overall this should turn into a lower-scoring slug fest where a sizable underdog has a lot of natural value, so I’ll take all these adjusted points with Tampa tonight.
LA Chargers/Las Vegas Raiders Over 40.5: 9:00 PM CT on ESPN
Not a lot of offenses were clicking in Week 1, except for the Chargers whose 27 points against a good Chiefs defense looks even better in context now. For LA to throw it all over the place with subpar receiving weapons and Jim Harbaugh on the sideline is surprising to say the least, but if they want to try it again they should have plenty more success. The back end of the Las Vegas defense is up there with the weakest in the league, and no Pete Carroll magic is going to save them if Justin Herbert is turned loose again.
But if the Chargers throwing it all over the yard was a surprise, then the Raiders doing the same thing last week is shocking. LA also has secondary weaknesses that can be exploited if Geno Smith is going to drop back 34 times again, so we could be in for a traditional indoor shootout here. Being able to knock this total down to a very low number by overall Week 2 standards is great value, especially if this is a buy-low spot on surprising offensive identities for both squads.
