2018 Projected Opening Day Roster

Starting Lineup

C – Jason Castro
1B – Joe Mauer
2B – Brian Dozier
3B – Miguel Sano
SS – Eduardo Escobar
LF – Eddie Rosario
CF – Byron Buxton
RF – Max Kepler
DH – Logan Morrison

The only real thing that was up in the air late in Spring Training was if Sano would be suspended, and it was announced on March 23 that he would not be. Otherwise, the Jorge Polanco suspension moved some things around, but it’s a mostly stable unit. They were fourth in the AL in runs scored last year, with sights on Cleveland, which finished third — just three runs ahead of the Twins.

Bench

C – Mitch Garver
IF – Ehire Adrianza
OF – Robbie Grossman
OF – Ryan LaMarre

LaMarre is the sole surprise here, as we thought maybe Kennys Vargas would sneak onto the bench, but for now, it’ll be the 29-year-old journeyman veteran who has more MLB teams (three) than hits (two). LaMarre hits from the right side, is coming off a stunning spring (.475/.511/.775) and is probably on a short leash, for what it’s worth.

Rotation

SP – Jake Odorizzi
SP – Kyle Gibson
SP – Jose Berrios
SP – Lance Lynn

Bullpen

RP – Fernando Rodney
RP – Addison Reed
RP – Trevor Hildenberger
RP – Ryan Pressly
RP – Zach Duke
RP – Taylor Rogers
RP – Gabriel Moya
RP – Tyler Kinley

Out

SP – Ervin Santana (expected back mid-May)
SP/RP – Trevor May (expected back after June 1)
SS – Jorge Polanco (suspended until late June)
RP – Phil Hughes (out with mild oblique strain)

Projected Opening Day Lineup v. Baltimore Orioles (RHP Dylan Bundy)

  1. Dozier 2B
  2. Mauer 1B
  3. Sano 3B
  4. Morrison DH
  5. Rosario LF
  6. Buxton CF
  7. Kepler RF
  8. Escobar SS
  9. Castro C

    SP – Jake Odorizzi
