2018 Verdict

The big thing for this year’s team is going to be depth of the pitching staff, rather than overall reliance on high-end talent. For a good team, the 2017 Twins gave way too many innings to terrible pitchers who gave them little or nothing in return. It’s easy to put together a list of pitchers who combined for over 300 innings of subpar pitching — Hughes, Santiago, Colon, Breslow, Tonkin, Haley, Turley, Slegers, Wilk and so on — and that should be avoidable with the additions to the bullpen and rotation. Having guys like Busenitz, Duffey and an entire rotation of guys on the 40-man roster at Rochester means depth is going to be huge for the Twins this year.

We already know the Twins can score. As long as they catch the ball and rely on their pitching depth, this should be a playoff team.

Prediction: The 2018 Minnesota Twins will finish 91-71.
