INMAN’S MOCK DRAFT COLLECTION

As a three-year starter at Texas A&M, Erik McCoy played a big role in one of the SEC’s top rushing attacks. McCoy wasn’t highly recruited but wound up starting every game from his redshirt freshman year on. He played a pair of games at guard as a sophomore but otherwise stayed at center. McCoy displayed a nice mix of speed and power at the NFL Combine to go with good size. Presumably, if McCoy is versatile enough to play any interior spot he’ll get consideration as early as Round 2.

40-yard dash: 4.89 seconds (1st at position)

What the analysts say

“Teams typically hunt for centers with the traits to withstand power or athleticism depending on their divisional competition. McCoy comes gift-wrapped in a thick, strong frame and proved he could hold up to both power (Dexter Lawrence) and athleticism (Quinnen Williams). He has some limitations in space, but he possesses more than enough body control and agility to compete on work-ups and cut-off blocks. With his ability match against base and sub-packages, McCoy could carry Day 2 draft value as a future starter.” – Lance Zierlein, NFL.com

“Erik McCoy is a plug and play starter at the NFL level. McCoy brings fabulous functional strength, lateral mobility and tenacity to the offensive interior. A feasible option to play at either Center or Guard, McCoy has a stocky build but plenty of power to go with it. McCoy is a fairly easy projection and would be a terrific fit in just about any offensive system in the league, he’s not just high floor but also high ceiling thanks to his functional athleticism and football smarts.” – Kyle Crabbs, The Draft Network
