Three Possible Trade Partners For Kyle Rudolph If He’s Dealt by...

A report Friday afternoon from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport strengthened speculation about a potential Kyle Rudolph trade that had already been rumored before and during the NFL Draft. The #Vikings had held active extension talks with veteran TE Kyle Rudolph, but those broke off this morning, sources say. With Minnesota drafting TE Irv Smith and Rudolph due $7.5M, this development could lead to a trade elsewhere. There is interest around the NFL. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) May 10, 2019 The longtime Vikings tight end told reporters on April 16 that he would be willing to restructure his contract in a way that would help the team’s salary cap situation. As it stands presently, the Vikings don’t have enough money to sign first-round pick Garrett Bradbury. But based on Rapoport’s tweet, the stalled negotiations could signal an impasse between the organization and their former second-round pick. Rudolph’s salary counts $7.625 million […]

GELFAND: Mama Gelfand, Champale and a Wild Card Pick

My mother viewed herself as something of a social renegade. Although she stopped short of embracing the lifestyle of her somewhat felonious cousins, she spent her maternal years inhaling unfiltered cigarettes — Lucky Strikes come to mind — and, when the occasion demanded, chugging down bottles of a particularly odious malt liquor named Champale. The elixir, which, between bankruptcies, is sporadically available in select urban markets (but, sadly, not ours), was aimed primarily at African-Americans and marketed as “The poor man’s Champagne.” When my parents hosted a gathering, my mother would dispatch the old man to the liquor store, where he would acquire adult beverages for the guests. Then, as my dad was about to leave the house, my mother would pretend to have just remembered something. “Oh,” she would say, “and pick up a six-pack of Champale.” The old man’s face would form a grimace, because he knew that […]

Diggs, Thielen Continue to Get Schemed Out as Vikings Lose 21-7

A receiving duo that was getting nods just over a month ago as the league’s best is suddenly wondering how to get reintroduced into the Minnesota Vikings offense. Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen were kept in check for most of the night in the Vikings 21-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Though the final box score shows 76 yards for Diggs and 70 for Thielen, 47 of Thielen’s yards came after the score was already 21-0 in the fourth quarter. Diggs, to his credit, came down with a 48-yard contested catch when the outcome was still undecided, but the Vikings faltered in the red zone after the play. Aside from Diggs’ deep ball, the Seahawks bottled up the Vikings star tandem as the offense sputtered for a third straight road loss. In those three games, the Vikings have scored seven total points in the first half (six quarters of football), […]
