2017 Senior Bowl: Corey Chavous Player Assessment

Corey Chavous spent 11 seasons in the NFL. During that time he played with the Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings and St. Louis Rams while moving from cornerback to safety. Chavous made the Pro Bowl in 2003 when he nearly hit double digits in interceptions as one of the most intellectual defensive backs the NFL had seen during his era.

Once his cleats were hung up for good Chavous took his football smarts to the next best spot, the NFL Draft. Chavous began using his football savvy unlike most people and harnessed it to scout the next generation of college football talent. It wasn’t long until Chavous was asked to be a part of major networks and appeared on ESPN’s coverage of the pre-draft process, where he could show off his ability to break down the film and see thing most scouts couldn’t.

Ten years later Chavous is still grinding away and adding to his rich resume as one of the best scouting minds in the game. He and his uncle tour the country year-round in a decked out RV bus loaded with multiple TVs and college tape to make efficient use of their lengthy time spent on the road. Their website, DraftNasty.com, has become one of the more prolific scouting websites on the web — built on the same foundation of hard work and football smarts that made Chavous the highly regarded NFL pro he was not long ago.

Naturally, I caught up with Chavous after practice to talk about a few prospects that caught his eye during Senior Bowl week.
