  • Wild Well-Represented At World Championships

    • The Minnesota Wild are just waiting for next season to be playing hockey again, but their players are not. According to Michael Russo, the Wild are going to be well-represented at the upcoming IIHF World Championships. Basically everyone eligible is going. Joel Eriksson Ek, Jonas Brodin, and the goaltending tandem of Filip Gustavsson and Jesper Wallstedt, all going for Sweden. Marco Rossi for Austria, Mats Zuccarello for Norway, Matt Boldy for the United States -- plenty of names could be heading over to Czechia. The tournament starts on May 10.

     

    • The Wild might have another center-winger pairing that could last them a very long time. Marco Rossi could be getting Danila Yurov to play alongside, soon enough. [Hockey Wilderness]
    • Thanks to Pat Maroon appearing in the playoffs for the Boston Bruins, the Wild are getting the 2026 sixth-round pick that was the return in the trade deadline move. [The Hockey News]

    Off the trail...

    • Nathan MacKinnon is having the best year of his career, but somehow, he is still being overshadowed by other stars around the league. [ESPN]
    • The Philadelphia Flyers re-signed fresh incomer goaltender Ivan Fedotov to a two-year deal that was fairly pricey on Tuesday. Reports are that this extension was part of the deal that the Flyers had with the player to originally come overseas to North America. [Broad Street Hockey]
    • Uh oh. Vancouver Canucks starter Thatcher Demko has been ruled out for the entire first round against the Nashville Predators. The team will now have to rely on Casey DeSmith, or someone else, to carry them to the second round. [Sportsnet]

    Game 4 of the Gagarin Cup finals is today at noon.

    Saginaw squeaked by Sault St. Marie, 3-1 in game 7. While Haight failed to get a point, he was 15/23 in faceoffs. It looks like he was moved to 1st line center, and that Calum Ritchie was out.

    So, think about this, in the CHL (WHL and OHL), we have players in all 4 conference finals' series. And, we've got Yurov in the finals of the K. All except Kalem Parker are playing large roles for their teams. 

    Meanwhile, all Wild related teams are home cooking, and making tee times. While a deep playoff run would be much nicer, once in awhile, getting a little longer summer break can have some benefits! 

    I also believe that Guerin can be talking trade with already eliminated teams. All those GMs are looking to make their teams better. I'm hoping he finds a way to make ours better before the draft frenzy.

    We should now be on plane watch for any Yurov sightings. He ends his K career with a championship....that sounds vaguely familiar. 

    Bring him over Shooter, we need him!!!

    Why didn't anyone mention that Al "Close" Shaver had passed away? Sean, where are you on this? 

    I can remember listening to him on the radio and filling out my box score sheet as a kid. I loved listening to his calls. It kind of seems like Wally should be the voice of the Wild. I don't mind hearing LaPanta, but the Shavers are broadcast royalty.

    96 years old is a long time. But he has finally signed off for the last time! 😪
