BREAKING: Twins Left Fielder Eddie Rosario Named AL Player of the Week

Minnesota Twins left fielder Eddie Rosario was named American League Player of the Week for the week spanning Aug. 7-13, the team announced on Monday. Rosario played in seven games over the week, hitting .444/.484/1.000 with seven of his 12 hits going for extra bases (three home runs, four doubles). Rosario also walked more times (four) than he struck out (three), scored 10 runs and drove in nine, and stole a base without getting caught.

For the season, Rosario is hitting .296/.337/.503, and has walked in 6.0 percent of his plate appearances. His career rate is 4.2 percent, and he’s nearly doubled his 2016 rate of 3.4 percent — his previous career-high. Rosario is showing better plate discipline as well, with a 39 percent chase rate — swings at pitches out of the zone, as dictated by Fangraphs — which is well below his rate of 44.3 percent from last season. He’s also simply swinging and missing less often (11.8 percent rate, 15.3 percent last season).
