5/15: Twins Win Second in a Row, Beat Indians 5-1

For the first time this year, the Minnesota Twins have won a series on the road, defeating the Cleveland Indians 5-1 Saturday afternoon.

Tyler Duffey gave up no earned runs in 7.0 innings, but gave up six hits and was hard on himself for allowing many of them with two outs instead of closing out the inning.

“I keep giving up two-out hits,” Duffey told the Star Tribune. “You get two quick ones and [catcher Juan] Centeno comes out and says, ‘Hey, let’s get this one,’ and the first pitch out of the gate, right back up the middle.”

Aside from that, however, the Twins dominated the Indians, winning their first series since April 25-27 at home against Cleveland.

Byung Ho Park led off the second inning with a double, and Eddie Rosario scored him. Centeno, coming off a career game on Saturday, then plated Rosario on a double.

Jorge Polanco hit his first major league home run in the seventh to put Minnesota up 3-0.

“It’s nice to have those moments in the clubhouse when you’re honoring a key moment in a young player’s career,” manager Paul Molitor told the Associated Press. “The kid’s come up here and hasn’t complained. He hasn’t had a lot of playing time.”

Jason Kipnis hit a home run off of Trevor May in the eighth, but Park and Polanco scored on Rosario’s double in the ninth to put the game out of reach.

“We needed it,” Duffey told the AP. “We got one (Saturday) and gave us some breathing room. We came out today ready to roll.”
