Evan Longoria added Jose Berrios to a long list of Minnesota pitchers who he has victimized over the years. The Tampa Bay third baseman connected for his 14th career home run against the Twins in the 3rd inning en route to a 7-3 Tampa Bay win.
“He’s had a pretty good season against us,” Twins manager Paul Molitor told the Star Tribune. “Every time we get him out, I’m relieved.”
Bobby Wilson also homered off of Berrios in the 5th, and Logan Forsythe took reliever Trevor May deep in the 7th, putting the game virtually out of reach. The Twins were able to score two runs in the 9th, but it was too little, too late.
Rays starter Chris Archer was able to keep the surging Twins offense at bay, giving up only three hits and one earned run in 6.0 innings.
“I feel lately I’ve been pretty efficient, even when I’m not getting a lot of strikeouts,” Archer told the Associated Press. “Tonight, the sixth inning got away from me a little bit but I’m not even worried about it. Six was all the team needed tonight. I definitely wanted to go deeper but it’s not all about me, it’s about getting a team win.”
