Twins Select Contract of Alex Wimmers

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Alex Wimmers from Triple-A Rochester

Wimmers, who was drafted by the Twins in the first round (21st overall) of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Ohio State University, has gone 2-2 with a 4.04 ERA (55.2 IP, 25 ER), with 24 walks, 55 strikeouts and 11 saves in 44 games between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Rochester this season.

The 27-year-old has spent seven seasons in the Twins minor league system, posting a record of 18-14 with a 4.25 ERA (332.1 IP, 157 ER), 134 walks and 336 strikeouts in 130 games (42 starts).

Wimmers will join the team in Toronto tonight and wear uniform number 51.
