Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has agreed to terms with restricted free-agent defenseman Matt Dumba (pronounced DUHM-ba) on a two-year, $5.1 million contract worth $2.35 million in 2016-17 and $2.75 million in 2017-18.
Dumba, 22 (7/25/94), registered 26 points (10-16=26) and 38 penalty minutes (PIM) in 81 games with Minnesota in 2015-16, totaling career highs in games played, goals, assists, points, PPG (6), GWG (3), shots (152), PIM, hits (83) and blocked shots (56).
The 6-foot, 193-pound native of Regina, Sask., ranked T-3rd on the club in PPG and fourth in PIM, and ranked second amongst Wild blueliners in goals and shots, and third in scoring. He added two assists in six playoff contests.
Dumba has totaled 44 points (19-25=44), 63 PIM and a plus-9 rating in 152 games during parts of three seasons with Minnesota (2013-16), adding six points (2-4=6) in 16 games during the last two postseasons. The right-shot defenseman was originally selected by the Wild in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
