8/5 GAME NOTES: Seattle and Dempsey rout Minnesota United 4-0

After coming off a confidence boosting 4-0 win of their own, Minnesota United was drubbed by the same scoreline on Saturday by the vaunted Seattle Sounders.

The sold-out crowd in TCF Bank Stadium saw Clint Dempsey and Co. do pretty much what you’d expect a team of their quality to do, pummel the Loons ruthlessly. The U.S. international forward had 2 goals and 1 assist and was at the heart of most things positive for Seattle.

That said, the 22,649 in attendance (second-highest total this season) saw a good show as United hung with the Sounders for much of the game despite the lopsided scoreline. In the first half, the Loons actually out-passed, out-possessed and out-crossed Seattle.

“At the end of the day we got beat by a very quality team,” Loons’ head coach Adrian Heath said. “Let’s not kid ourselves here. They’ve got internationals at nearly every position on the field. It’s taken them however many years, continually improving to put it together and we have to be realistic about that.”
