FLASHBACK: Justin Morneau Wins Home Run Derby

In honor of tonight’s Home Run Derby, featuring Minnesota Twins slugger Miguel Sano as a No. 5 seed, we look back to 2008 when Justin Morneau went toe to toe with Texas slugger Josh Hamilton in one of the most epic derbies of all time.

While Twins fans chalk this up as a win for their local hero, the rest of the nation walked away from this one buzzing about Hamilton’s incredible display of 28 home runs in the first round.

Morneau got the last laugh, though, as he outlasted Hamilton in the final round when the totals were reset and Hamilton had nothing left.

Sano tries to become the next Twin to win as he faces Kansas City’s Mike Moustakas in the first round tonight at Marlins Park in Miami.
