The Minnesota Vikings added further depth to their interior defensive line Wednesday by signing former Indianapolis Colts starter David Parry.
Parry, 26, was a 2015 fifth-round pick who started all 32 games in his first two seasons in Indianapolis. He recorded four sacks and 49 solo tackles combined in those two years.
An incident in early 2017 sent Parry’s career spiraling in the wrong direction after a night of drinking in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Feb. 25, 2017. A drunken Parry stole a golf cart, drove it while intoxicated and resisted arrest while harrassing police after being pulled over. Video shows Parry swearing and directing slurs at law enforcement.
Parry was released from the Colts before the season but found a job with the New Orleans Saints. He appeared in one game before going on the injured reserve list with an ankle injury. While sidelined, he served a four-game suspension for his February arrest.
The Iowa native and former Stanford grad will look for redemption with the Vikings, who released DT Dylan Bradley to make room for Parry on the roster.
With the news earlier in the week that Brian Robison, a situational inside pass rusher, will be returning to the team, the addition of Parry provides more assurance that the Vikings will remain deep on the inside after losing Tom Johnson and Shamar Stephen in free agency.
Minnesota added Sheldon Richardson to be their likely starter at 3-technique defensive tackle and also drafted Ohio State product Jalyn Holmes to be a potential backup.
