Fantasy Perspective: Jets vs. Broncos

After getting some enticing names in the first three weeks of the NFL season, we’re treated to the New York Jets vs. the Denver Broncos. It would be a lot more intriguing if we didn’t have major injuries on both sides: Le’Veon Bell and Jamison Crowder for the Jets, and Drew Lock, Courtland Sutton and Phillip Lindsay for Denver.

Nonetheless, here we are.

Fade both QB’s?

There’s a real chance that I may fade both quarterbacks in this matchup. Sam Darnold is off to a rocky start, completing only 61.5% of his passes, 562 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions. However, the Broncos are dealing with injuries, including Von Miller, and they just got ripped by Tom Brady last week.

On the other side, Brett Rypien is going to make his first ever NFL start. The UDFA out of Boise St. will be the ninth different starting QB for Broncos since the start of the 2017 season. The only reason I may roster him is because of decreased salary, but his inexperience combined with an inexperienced WR crew likely makes me pass.

Roster and Captain a Defense

See above. It’s very likely I roster both defenses and Captain one, most likely Denver, since Indy scored two D/ST touchdowns against the Jets last week. But how can you not look at rostering the Jets defense, as bad as it may be, against a rookie QB making his first NFL start?

Who will Rypien turn to?

Most young QBs will turn to their tight ends, and he has a good one in Noah Fant. He scored in weeks one and two, and even though he didn’t score last week, he had 10 targets.

As for the rookie wide receivers, Jerry Jeudy is still the leader of this group. He caught five of his nine targets, this despite battling a rib injury. Don’t necessarily sleep on KJ Hamler either: He should get continue to evolve into a bigger part of this offense, and the price is right on DraftKings Showdown ($4800).

So, let’s go forward with some unique strategies and make some money in what otherwise looks like an ugly matchup.
